The Benefits of Bamboo Furniture

bamboo

Bamboo can handle a lot of use without getting damaged. It’s even stronger than oak, which is widely considered the most durable hardwood. When laminated, bamboo is nearly as strong as soft steel. Bamboo doesn’t swell or shrink as hardwoods do, making it the perfect material for furniture and floors.

Then there are the environmental benefits. Farmed bamboo does a great deal to the soil with its roots, preventing erosion. It takes in greenhouse gasses and produces oxygen – 35% more oxygen than an equivalent grove of trees. Many species of bamboo can grow two feet or more a day. When bamboo is responsibly harvested, it does not need to be replanted, because it will grow a new shoot from its extensive root system. This means that bamboo renews itself constantly, unlike hardwood trees, which, once cut, are gone forever. Bamboo is an endlessly renewable resource.
